Playa Mujeres is a relatively new area north of Cancun. While you fly into Cancun airport, you are not located in the hotel zone, but rather in a gated area about 30 minutes north. It is a peninsula with gorgeous white sandy beaches on one side and a lagoon on the other. The Playa Mujeres Golf Club is also minutes away offering a Greg Norman designed Course that is challenging and for all levels.

Our Experience with the Excellence Playa Mujeres
I love this resort. If I need a kid-less getaway (which does not happen often enough) this is one of my top choices. Spacious rooms, a stunning stretch of beach, and the service are fabulous.
Plus, our team has planned quite a few weddings here and the fact that they only host one wedding per day says a lot about the quality of service you can expect.

Nightclub: No, but they have daily live musical performances, nightly shows in their outdoor theater, theme nights with special outdoor dinners, and an array of nighttime bars and lounges.
Spa: Yes, Miile Spa, features one of the most extensive hydrotherapy circuits in the Mexican Caribbean.
Beauty Salon: Yes, it offers salon treatments.
Fitness Center: Yes, it opens daily

PROS of the Excellence Playa Mujeres
- Service – Just WOW. Needs are anticipated. Service with a smile.
- Beach – the sand is soft and white. The beach is really wide and there are a lot of loungers with shade. The ocean is clear and swimmable. Take me back, now, please!
- Wedding Cost – The wedding packages at the Excellence Playa Mujeres are VERY affordable.

CONS of the Excellence Playa Mujeres
- Maximum wedding size is 70 guests – If you are planning on a large wedding, this hotel does not accept groups of over 70 guests.
- Only one room category accommodates 3 guests – If you are planning on traveling with friends, the only room that accommodates 3 is the junior suite spa or pool view.
- No nightclub – Although they do have nightly entertainment varying from live music to shows, there is no nightclub per se. The lobby bar is open until 1am, but if you want to dance until the wee hours, consider adding a few extra hours to your reception event.
Rooms and Sections
The resort is split into the regular rooms and then Excellence Club. The rooms start at 810 ft² (75m²) so they are spacious and have an integrated living room area. All have 24-hour room service, a mini-bar stocked daily, and bath amenities.
Excellence Club offers a few more perks and even more service. Exclusive lounge, a private pool area, and upgraded services for the rooms like upgraded room service, bath amenities, and liquor options.
The Beach
AHHHHH. The beach at Excellence Playa Mujeres is the stuff dreams are made of. Long, wide, soft white sand and the water is as turquoise as it gets. Lots of space and loungers available. Also, sit back and chill as the waiters bring you your cold drinks and snacks.
Food & Drink
With 10 restaurants and 11 bars, chances are you will not go hungry or thirsty.
Keep in mind that the resort does enforce a dress code, so men, plan on packing long pants and closed shoes. Ladies, normally a sundress is fine, but they do ask for dressy sandals and the French restaurant wants shoulders covered. Well worth it for the delicious food!

Activities & Sports
The hotel has a full activities program ranging from sports on and off the beach throughout the day as well classes ranging from yoga to cooking to dance.
Non-motorized water sports include kayaks and stand-up paddle boards if you want to get out on the ocean.
In the evening the hotel has live music performances, theme nights, a variety of shows, and a choice of bars and lounges open until 1am.

Although there is another Excellence Resort property right next door (Finest Playa Mujeres) and another Excellence property in the Riviera Maya, the resort does not offer exchange privileges.

If you want exclusivity, this is it! The Excellence Playa Mujeres performs only 1 wedding per day.
In addition, the wedding packages are surprisingly very affordable. This is the most complete package at $2400 for up to 20 guests. Each guest over and above the included 20 costs only $45, which is one of the lowest prices we have come across.
You can also choose a wedding ceremony only or a vow renewal ceremony.

The packages do include basic decor and floral arrangements. If you want to add on, there will be an extra charge. Also, depending on the venue you choose, you may want to consider extra lights, such as bistro or fairy lights.

- try to choose a later ceremony time as it can get quite hot
- if planning a beach cocktail or reception, factor in a little extra money for ambient lighting such as string lights
- best without heels as the sand is quite soft
Ceco Terrace
This area, the Ceco (Se-co) terrace is located in the far back of the property next to the Convention Center and is very private and quiet. It is quite magical in the evening with the surrounding fountains and tropical vibe.
